How To Correctly Attach & Secure A Lavalier Microphone

I created these learning applications to help correct problems college students were experiencing using a Lavalier microphone. In this instructional module, I developed two media pieces to teach the proper techniques for placing a Lavalier mic on a subject. The first is an instructional video demonstrating each step with clear visuals and audio. The second is an infographic that summarizes the video's main points and explains why following the proper steps is essential for sound quality and equipment safety. I created this content because I noticed many students were damaging the microphones by not following the proper techniques to mic a subject, which cost our school hundreds of dollars to replace them. I used several instructional design principles to make the content more effective and engaging. I segmented and chunked the material into manageable units so students could easily comprehend and remember the information. I used multimodal approaches and universal design to make the content accessible and appealing to all learners, regardless of their learning preferences or abilities. I also minimized cognitive load by providing only the essential information and avoiding unnecessary distractions.

Furthermore, I followed Merrill’s approach to learning, which is task-centered and problem-based, to help students apply the skills they learned in authentic contexts. Using these principles, I aimed to create a high-quality instructional module that enhances student learning and performance. These instructional aids were of great benefit and accomplished the task of reducing the breakage of the mics and reducing the cost of replacement to the school.

Infographics

The infographic aims to complement the instructional video. It also provides a visual aid for students to remember and recall the proper methods and steps for attaching and securing a Lavalier microphone.
