Drag and Drop Camera Lens Game
I developed a virtual drag-and-drop game using gamification strategies to help first-year college students identify lens types and the field of view each one creates. The game aims to enhance the students’ visual literacy and photography skills by allowing them to experiment with various lens types and compare the results. I utilized a multi-modality approach and universal design to ensure the game was accessible to all learners. This approach ensures that the game meets the diverse needs and preferences of the students, as well as the principles of effective instructional design. This game was developed inside of Adobe Captivate so it could be connected to a learning management system for automatic grading purposes. By integrating the game with the learning management system, I can track students' progress and performance and provide them with immediate feedback and guidance.
One of my favorite features of this game is that students with a disability, like dyslexia, can click on the play button and have all the text on the screen read to them. I also developed the game to give students unlimited attempts to ensure they comprehended which lens created the correct type of photo style. I also worked on visual design to ensure that the game did not cause cognitive load for learners that would distract them from the learning material. The game's visual and graphic design follows the principles of alignment, contrast, repetition, and proximity, including appropriate colors, fonts, and images. By completing the drag-and-drop game successfully, the students will have demonstrated their understanding of lens identification.
How this project was developed
I designed the dragon drop game inside of Adobe Captivate, which allowed me to connect to a Learning Management System (LMS) so it could provide the students with automatic grading and feedback.
