Choose Your Owner Venture
I designed a choose-your-own-adventure game for my college students to help them prepare to produce the backstage show for the Regional Emmy Awards in Cleveland, Ohio. I gamified various scenarios that could arise during a live production and instructed the students on how to handle each situation effectively. I used the ADDIE model, which included analyzing the problem, designing the interactive media, developing the learning product, implementing the completed game, and evaluating the outcome. I employed a multimodal learning approach to ensure that I delivered the information to my students in the most suitable way for their learning styles. I also incorporated universal design principles to make the game accessible and inclusive for all my students, especially those with disabilities.
Furthermore, I paid attention to the game's cognitive load. I ensured that none of the graphics, audio, or sound effects interfered with the students’ comprehension of the concepts I presented. Upon completing this interactive module, the students were prepared to deliver a polished backstage show confidently.
How this project was developed
My design choice for this e-learning project was to create a game-based learning environment using Adobe Captivate. This software enabled me to implement automation and provide immediate feedback to learners, which are essential features for enhancing their critical thinking skills and guiding them toward optimal learning outcomes. Furthermore, this software allowed me to integrate the game with a Learning Management System (LMS), facilitating the automatic assessment and feedback of learners’ performance.
